When I first started out as a coach, I remember feeling stuck when it came to finding clients. I had the skills, the drive, and a clear vision for my business…
But, turning that into actual clients? That felt like a different story. 😔
I didn’t want to cold call or send salesy messages to people I hadn’t spoken to in years. (And I know many of you don’t want to do this either!)
It all seemed so overwhelming until I learned about the Green, Yellow, and Red list strategy, which helped me feel confident with my outreach.
The process is simple yet impactful! Let me walk you through it.
🟢 Start with your Green List.
This is the list of people who are easy to reach out to—your friends, family, current and past coworkers, and people from any groups or organizations you’re part of. These are your warmest connections.
🟡 Next, move on to your Yellow List.
These are people you know, but aren’t super close with. Maybe they’d send you a get well card, but they wouldn’t show up at your door with soup. Think of old colleagues, acquaintances, or distant friends.
🔴 Finally, your Red List.
This is your list of people who seem a bit intimidating or out of reach. Think of professionals like doctors, lawyers, or high profile people in your network. You may want to avoid these conversations, but they’re worth putting on your radar.
I’ll be honest, reaching out to someone on my Red List always feels nerve-racking.
But I remind myself: I’m offering something valuable. ✨
After sending a simple message, I often end up with a new client a few months later.
Sometimes, we have to stretch beyond what feels comfortable in order to really grow. 🌱

We’ve all experienced times in life of wrestling with our own negative thoughts. 🤼♀️
When it comes to your coaching business, there is no exception.
“I should have done that better.”
“Why wasn’t I nicer to them when dealing with that?”
“I’m not good enough to do this…Why do I even try?”
“I’ll never make enough money as a coach.”
“I’m a FRAUD.”
When you encounter these thoughts, you’re dealing with your inner critic. 🌪️
These feelings of inadequacy are a normal part of the human experience. And we can all relate.
Your inner critic is a built-in defense mechanism that is constantly trying to protect you from embarrassment and failure. But that can become a bad thing when you allow it to hold you back - when you become paralyzed by fear. 😓
So here are four steps you can take to quiet your inner critic:
1️⃣ Ask yourself, “What is it that my inner critic is trying to protect me from?”
2️⃣ Think about this: When you are the highest and most healed version of yourself - when you’re NOT afraid - what do you know to be true?
3️⃣ Identify an important factor - Whose voice is it that your inner critic is trying to represent? Is it the voice of your parents? A friend? An enemy? Or, is it your own voice?
4️⃣ Take action: What action can you take to move (far) away from these unwanted messages and towards the truth of who you are?
Next time you find yourself fighting with your inner critic, remember: it’s just an outdated coping mechanism.
Don’t let it bully you.
Instead, remind yourself of who you really are and embrace your truth. 💖
