This voice message came into my inbox and I have been sitting with it ever since.

Because she named something I hear from women constantly. The over-functioning. The fixer mode. The feeling that you have to solve everyone else`s problems just to earn your seat at the table.

That is not a personal failing. It is a pattern that gets conditioned into women over a lifetime. And it is one of the things we go directly at inside SheFirst.

When the work lands in someone`s inbox at exactly the right moment and they print it out and put it on their wall — that is why I do this.

Free to Lead is coming July 24. If this is hitting close to home, I want you in that room. Link in the comments.

"Thank you for echoing it and giving me even more validation for why I`m leaning into this — the over-functioning that so many women get pulled reflexively into. This fixer mode. Feeling conditioned to over-function and solve for other people just to have validity and a seat at the table." — Fellow Coach and SheFirst Community Member

I have walked probably a thousand miles at this park. Maybe more.

I have lived in this area for over 25 years and walking is one of the things I do for my mental health. Not for weight loss. Not to hit a step count. For my mind.

I have had some of the best conversations of my life on this trail. With friends. With God. With myself. This is actually where I was walking when something shifted and I knew that Break Free From Your Dirty Little Secrets was going to be a ten stage secret breaking system. Then I went across the street and got tacos. You know, balance.

My mind is busy. It is always going. And when I get outside and feel the rhythm of my feet on the ground, something settles. The noise quiets. I can hear myself think again.

What do you do for your mind? Not your body, not your productivity, not your to-do list. What is the thing that actually lets you rest?

Make sure you have one. It matters more than most people give it credit for.

Most people walk into important conversations and hope for the best.

POC+A gives you a frame instead.

It is the preparation structure I teach inside the Coach Approach to Leadership and it is the difference between entering a conversation and leading one. Four questions. Answered before you walk in. Every time.

Swipe through the carousel — it breaks down each piece. Save this one, you will come back to it.

The Coach Approach to Leadership newsletter also goes live on LinkedIn today if you want to go even deeper on this work.

Most leaders prepare content. They know their data, their talking points, their answers to likely questions. And that matters.

But in the Coach Approach to Leadership, Preparation means something more specific than that. It is knowing the decision you are influencing before you walk in the room.

The leaders who consistently land with impact prepare their positioning. They know what outcome they are shaping. They know what they are prepared to stand behind. And they know at what level they intend to lead the conversation before anyone else says a word.

That kind of preparation does not just change what you say. It changes how you walk in. How you hold the room. How steady you stay when things get pushed back on.

Content preparation gets you ready. Positioning preparation makes you a leader.
This is the third of four posts this month on each of the 4 Ps.

Leadership is not just strategy. It is identity.

And underneath every leader`s identity is a set of invisible rules they picked up somewhere along the way.

Rules about what strong looks like. What asking for help means. Whether you are allowed to take up space. Whether your voice carries the same weight as the person next to you.

Most leaders have never examined these rules directly. They just live inside them. And those rules shape every decision, every conversation, and every moment where their leadership either lands or quietly disappears.

This is what I wrote about in Break Free From Your Dirty Little Secrets. The invisible stories that high-achieving people carry that quietly shape how they lead, love, and live.

When you can see the rule, you can change it. When you can name what has been running the show, you get to decide if it still deserves to.

This summer inside SheFirst we are going into exactly this territory with Free to Lead on July 24. The internal operating system that is shaping everything on the outside. But the first chapter of the book is the place to start if you want a taste of what this work feels like.
