Are your secrets holding you back from living your best life? Many of us carry the weight of shame, regret, and lies from our past, creating a false self that keeps us stuck in patterns of pain and self-sabotage.
As unappealing as this may sound, speaking your truth is the key to shedding this burden and stepping into a life of authenticity, integrity, and self-love. Keep reading to learn why keeping secrets is harmful, how revealing them can liberate you, and whatâs possible when you embrace your true self.
Keeping Secrets Hurts
Itâs scientifically proven that keeping secrets hurts. Holding a secret can create anxiety, stress, depression, agitation, isolation, and worry – and can even manifest in physical symptoms like back pain, high blood pressure, insomnia, stomachaches, headaches, and more.
As a secret keeper myself, I experienced terrible colitis from the accumulation of the falsities I lived with or signed up for that almost landed me in the hospital. For a long time, neither I nor the doctors could figure out what was wrong. I hired a trauma therapist and as I told her each and every secret about who I was, what I thought, the truths I believed about myself, and what Iâd done, my colitis disappeared.
It was liberating to tell the truth and let them roll around the floor of her office. When the secrets were out there to be examined, my mind stopped racing.
Speaking Your Truth
Releasing secrets is not just about alleviating pain; itâs about reclaiming your true self. When you choose to speak your truth, you end the cycle of falsehoods that keep you disconnected from who you are. You begin to act from a place of integrity, self-love, and courage.
For me, this transformation was life-changing. Once my secrets were out, I no longer needed to hide behind a false self. The stories I had authored about who I was got to be rewritten. My beautiful true self showed up.
Break Free From Your Secrets
When you speak your secrets aloud, you release their hold on you. You give yourself the chance to heal, to rewire your thinking, and to create a life that reflects your most authentic self. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but the rewards are undeniable.
My true self and I have moved on to accomplish goals that I could not or would not have been brave enough to do if I were still living under the protection of my false self.
If you start speaking your truth, you can do the same.
