How to Surrender Your Secret

Dirty Little Secrets of Women book and accompanying workbook by Gretchen Hydo.

If you know me, you know how often I talk about the importance of breaking free from your secret. (After all, I did write a book about it!)

But you also need to surrender your secret so that it will never be a secret again.

So, how do you do that?

First, Break Free

Your first step is to follow along with my 10-Stage Secret-Breaking System and use the Secret-Breaking template.

Then tell a safe person about your secret so that it loses its hold on you.

When you’ve done these things and are ready for your secret to never be a secret again, you can symbolically surrender it.

How to Surrender Your Secret

For many people, it helps to symbolically surrender their secret so that they can really let go of it. There are many ways to do that, so here are some ideas.

1. Burn It

Burn your secret-breaking template. This is a great way to get out any anger toward what your secret has done to you. It can feel like you are defeating your secret, once and for all.

2. Wash It Away

Get a rock or stone and throw it into a body of water. Not only does this symbolize washing away the secret, but you are throwing it away to let go of that burden.

3. Write a Letter

Write a letter to your false self, thanking her for all that she’s done for you. In the letter, really talk about that secret with her, and then let her know that you’re going to let your true self lead a new life from now on.

4. Store It

You can write down your secret and put it in a box for God to work on. It can be a shoe box or anything else that might work. Shut the lid on it. Anytime you want to take that secret back and start thinking about it, instead, decide to remember. Remember that it comes from your false self. And remember that God is working on it.

5. Give It to God

Similar to the last idea, you can give the secret to God by talking to Him about it. Get a spiritual viewpoint on how you should be looking at it.
