When I was 26 years old, I nearly stabbed my husband in the middle of a church because I had lost control and was driven by frustration and fear. I was spinning in the loop of a secret. 🔐
Intense, right?
Secrets are a one-two-three punch. 🥊
The first swing is the action. The second jab is the lie I told myself about who I was because of my secret: that I was a horrible, violent person who didn’t deserve to be loved or have a great life. That false narrative is the most damaging and is what we, as women, build our lives on.
The final uppercut is the reason that secrets are created in the first place - and that has everything to do with the rules that were set out for you and for me by well meaning people, society, and organizations.
At my darkest moment, there was nothing out there to help me. Millions of women are suffering from the shame of their secrets, confused about their value, and unaware that what drew them to create secrets in the first place was inevitable.
Even telling this secret - one that I’ve talked about before and is in the pages of my book for the world to read - to people still causes me to pause at times.

Genuine happy versus fake happy...
Have you ever felt it?
I know there have been times where I`ve felt like I was faking it, and that even though the circumstances were great, I didn`t feel that connected, but posed for the photo anyway.
When I see these two photos a year apart, it`s obvious to me in which one I`m truly happy and which one I`m trying to be happy (but stuck in my head instead).
The one that says congratulations is from a celebration of my book launch. I should be happy there. I had just accomplished a wild dream and actually became a bestselling author. But I`m not happy. I`m agitated. I feel like a failure. I feel like I`m a fake author. And yet, I smiled and posed.
A year later, in this second photo, I`m at Disneyland. No celebration. Just went to have fun and to be with my husband. In that photo, I`m truly happy.
What`s different? The inner work that I did.
So that my smile could reach my eyes and my heart.
I put in a lot of time and pulled back my own covers to see what was happening on the inside. I`m a type-A overachiever, and when you have had enough success but aren`t feeling happy or content, it`s time to look within.
Last year, I got to see that many of my accomplishments felt hollow. I realized I had to take a look at the stories and narratives I was feeding myself every day. I got curious about what motivates me and what I`m made of when I take away the old ways of being.
And that photo of me at Disneyland is a pretty good representation of how I feel today...
Happy. Light. Purposeful.
